HOMEOWNER GUIDE

FENSA, CERTASS and window installation paperwork

Ask which compliance route applies to your home and work.

Understand the scope

FENSA is a competent-person scheme for eligible replacement window and door work in England and Wales. It should not be presented as a universal requirement across the UK or for every glazing project.

Check the applicable route

Ask whether the installer will use an appropriate scheme or building control and what certificate you will receive. In Scotland or Northern Ireland, check the relevant local requirements rather than assuming the same route applies.

Separate compliance from guarantees

A compliance document is different from a product warranty or workmanship guarantee. Record all three separately where applicable, including who supplies them and any registration deadlines.

Further guidance: FENSA. Requirements vary with the work and location. Check current guidance for your circumstances.
